Jack Thwaite
Jack Thwaite started his jewellery company in 1975 designing jewellery featuring stones predominantly set in silver, using a technique called lapidary. This invloves the cutting, shaping and polishing of stones. Jack travels the world to find stones of high quality to feature in his jewellery and is always on the lookout for new sources. He is particulary interested in discovering local stones from the British Isles and Ireland, including County Donegal granite and Isle of Sky marble, and will visit small artisian quarries with his rucksack to suitable raw materials. Returning to his workshop he creates a collection of jewellery depending on the characteristics of the stone and quantity available.
Jack's workshop and home is set 1,000 feet up in the Derbyshire Peak District in England. Sheep roam the hills and snow can cut him off in winter. He goes nowhere without his sketchbook.
